Paulo Azevedo x Verbena – Verbena Flores

Paulo Azevedo x Verbena

Talented and with good taste to spare, we present Paulo Azevedo.

Considered a revelation of national interior design, Paulo participated in more than 7 editions of Casa Cor. With projects full of personality, refinement and culture, his environments escape the commonplace and prove that “less is only more, when more is not it is good".

Tell us a little about your story and how you decided you wanted to be an architect.

I have always liked beauty. I remember that the first time I thought about aesthetics I was around 6 years old, when I was at my cousin's grandparents' house. The house was beautiful, all concrete and all the furniture was Scandinavian design.

At the time I had no idea how important or meaningful it all was, but I remember being enchanted. From then on, I started paying more attention to this universe.

How do you define your style?

Despite being very close to the classics, I consider myself contemporary.

What does your dream house look like? And who would be your dream “client”?

My dream house is a house where I can feel at ease, walk around barefoot, receive friends or enjoy time alone.

A house full of colors, collectibles, stories and, without a doubt, a beautiful garden.

My dream client is a client full of personality, even if it deviates from the norm. Furthermore, a client who loves architecture and decoration, and who vibrates every idea along with me.

Who are the people who inspire you most in the world of architecture, interiors and design?

My biggest references are names from the past! I am enchanted by the work of David Hicks, Tony Duquette and of course, Maison Jansen. I'm also a big fan of Tadao Ando's minimalism.

What tip would you give to someone who is decorating a space?

There is no “can’t”. Anything can be done in decoration, and what we should ask ourselves when designing is “what do I want to feel in my home?” . It is important to always think about the people who will occupy the space, before thinking about the space itself.

What are your favorite flowers? And is there any place in your house or in the houses you decorate where you ALWAYS have flowers?

My two favorite flowers are peonies and vandas. I always keep flowers on the living room side table, in the bathroom, and on the office desk.

What type of flower/arrangement/color do you like to give when you give someone a gift?

It's super interesting to give flowers as a gift, as we can bring meaning to the gift through flowers. For example, when I send birthday flowers, a bouquet with a mix of orchids of different colors and species is a great option.

When I want to be grateful for something, a bouquet of light flowers and soft tones is a great option.

Each occasion has a color palette and different flowers.

Do you have any favorite/dream pieces of art? If so, what would it be?

I love surrealist paintings! Any work by Miró or Dalí could be considered my dream come true.

What are your favorite hotspots in São Paulo?

I'm super eclectic when it comes to choosing places to go.

I'm a fan of Mediterranean cuisine, which is why I really like Tanit and Myk.

A place I love to have lunch on the weekends is Conceição Discos. They only have one variety of dish per day, and the chef cooks it fresh! It's delicious and the crowd is super cool.

For drinks, I'm a fan of the old center. Bar do Cofre, for example, is a very beautiful place full of history.

How do you start and end your day?

My schedule is super varied, but initially in the morning I organize my schedule, emails, and to-dos - everything that needs to be done in the office I do in the morning. I set aside the afternoon for meetings, visits to stores, and visits to construction sites.

At the end of the day (when I don't finish my meetings too late), I set aside some time for physical activities - I confess that my daily life is quite busy!
